Making Things Disappear

One of my clients often requires edits to selected images from a photoshoot. This can range from removing a small logo on some clothing to much more challenging retouch requests. Modern synthetic material textures and patterns need to be matched up exactly to ensure the vanishing act is seamless.

I often have to separate a subject from the background. Those slightly out of focus, windblown hair strands are difficult to isolate without leaving behind telltale traces and odd looking edges. Sometimes the image needs recomposing. Adding in more background or extending the sky. Adjusting the highlights to remove a distraction from behind the subject. Other times they just want that fire extinguisher and those sockets removed.

On one occasion there were the groundskeeper’s vehicles messing up the shot. The depth of field meant the van and tractor were blurred out by the bokeh but that brings with it another challenge. Anything used to cover up has to have the exact same sort of blur.

I enjoy these challenges. Each photo that requires work will stretch the grey matter in a new way. If you have a stack of photos that could do with a tidy up, then I can help.
