Catching the mistakes

Reprint cost or missed deadline? Which one keeps you up more at night?

A hand holds a loupe magnifier over some business cards. There is a red pencil circle over a missing @ symbol. The card are sitting on a green cutting mat and there is a swatch book to the right.

Where you @?

A small reprint can be quick. Cancel the first run, get the correct one in, and the deadline holds.

But a reprint can also mean joining the back of the printers queue. That slot may not come for a while. If the event date was fixed months ago and everything else is in place, the deadline cant move. Thats when you look at other suppliers. Pay what it takes. Get it in. Get it done.

Sometimes it’s too late for either. The most expensive mistake Ive seen was a DVD multi-pack with a website address one character out. Half a million units already on a ship. The whole shipment had to be repackaged in a warehouse.

So it comes down to where you draw the line. When have you paid more or changed printer to hold a date?
